Frequently asked questions
After the testing of the Phase R High Output on 02/19/2021 from UNR was proven successful to deactivate the virus sample of SARS HCoV-2-OC43 in 8 seconds from 5 feet, two of the top UV output measuring meters were purchased & used to replicate the UNR parameters and determine the UV radiance of the test unit. This allowed us to establish a BASELINE in both mW/cm2 and mJ/cm2. Further enhancements and modifications to the Phase R HO and subsequent HVAC & Phase R products have been proven to exceed the original BASELINE in both time and distance.
Germicidal UV (GUV) refers to using ultraviolet radiant energy to inactivate bacteria, mold spores, fungi
or viruses. When the process is applied in a given location, it has generally been referred to as ultraviolet
germicidal irradiation (UVGI). Because of the public’s concern about ionizing radiation (e.g., X-rays and
gamma rays), the term GUV avoids needless concerns about a link with that type of radiation. Another
non-technical term is germicidal light, although “light” is technically only visible radiation.

News June 24, 2020 Far-UVC Light 222nm Safely Kills Airborne Coronaviruses
Quote: “In the study, the researchers used a misting device to aerosolize two common coronaviruses. The
aerosols containing coronavirus were then flowed through the air in front (less than 12” distance?) of a
far-UVC lamp. After exposure to far-UVC light, the researchers tested to see how many of the viruses were
still alive. The researchers found that more than 99.9% of the exposed virus had been killed by a very low
exposure to far-UVC light.
Based on their results, the researchers estimate that continuous exposure to far-UVC light at the current
regulatory limit would kill: 90% of airborne viruses in about 8 minutes, 95% in about 11 minutes, 99% in
about 16 minutes, and 99.9% in about 25 minutes.”
UVC SCIENCE technology will achieve the same sterilization in 1 second
There is a misunderstanding that 254nm is the optimal wavelength for disinfection because the peak
wavelength of a low-pressure mercury lamp (determined solely by the physics of the lamp) is 253.7nm. The
wavelength of 265 nm is generally considered to be optimal because this wavelength is the peak of the DNA
absorption curve. However, a range of wavelengths have disinfection and sterilization effects.

Historically, mercury lamps have been the only option for disinfection and sterilization. With the advancement
of UV LED technology, there are new options because LEDs are smaller, more powerful, non-toxic, longer life,
more energy efficient, and allow more switching times. This makes the solution smaller, battery-powered,
more portable, and capable of instant full-light output.

Upper-room GUV air disinfection is a primary means of safe and highly effective air disinfection,
provided it is planned, installed, commissioned, and maintained according to current international
standards. Room air cleaners, disinfecting air throughHEPA filters, in-duct UV lamps, or other methods seem
attractive, but their clean-air delivery rate when converted to room ACH is often trivial—no more than 1 or 2
added ACH. GUV in-duct air disinfection is a secondary approach to treating any recirculated air.

Considerable testing was done at the UVC Science laboratory at UNR/ARF during April-May 2022. Test results
indicated UV Radiance in the 12” test duct, exceeded the radiance that enabled complete inactivation of
human Coronavirus in the independent UNR Test Report of 02/19/2021.
Our standard sizes are 6 inches to 12 inches. Custom design and sizes are available upon request.
An Autonomous robotic application is currently in development at UNR/ARF. This item would be a customized
